Learn From A Donkey

Luke 19:29: And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, 30 Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither. 31 And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him. 32 And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them. 33 And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? 34 And they said, The Lord hath need of him. 35 And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon. 36 And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.

I would not presume to say that the Lord needed that particular donkey. He could have chosen any donkey. I would not presume to say that the Lord needs you or me. He could choose anyone else to do what He wants me to do or He could choose anyone else for what He wants you to do. He had a plan for that donkey and He has a plan for each of our lives. That donkey had never been ridden before. I understand that the first thing a donkey would do would be to try to buck the rider off, much like an untrained horse would. They cast their garments on the colt. It did not have a saddle or bridle or reins. But it obediently carried Jesus into Jerusalem. We have all heard about how stubborn donkeys and mules are. I don*t know if they are easier to train than a horse. This one was not stubborn. It did exactly what Jesus wanted it to do.

For the first half of my life, like a stubborn donkey or Isaiah*s sheep, I stubbornly went my own way.

Isaiah 53:6: All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

And then I received Jesus. God*s plan for each of us is to stop going our own way and go His way. Many believe they can receive Jesus and keep going their own way. Either they have not received the Jesus of the Bible or they are having a miserable life.

Deuteronomy 5:33: Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

Isaiah 30:21: And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

Jeremiah 7:23: But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

2 John 1:6: And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

So, are you going your own sinful way or are you going God*s righteous way?
